Today summer is definitely here! Since I am back to my daily routine of swimming, I have been wanting to share a few skin and hair tips to ensure you look great all summer long.

1. Keep Your Pool Clean

First, you must have a great pool cleaning service! Fowler’s Pool Service (serving San Diego county) is an outstanding choice. We ensure that your water is balanced, your pool filter is cleaned, that your pool filter is running the correct number of hours per day, and that the equipment is fine-tuned and running at its peak. If your swimming pool service company has all of your swimming pool needs covered, then the rest is up to you!

1. Protect Your Hair

Hair is porous and it will absorb whatever it is covered with. The last thing that you want to do is fill your hair shafts with chlorine. Therefore, before you enter the water be sure to wet your hair with water (that is not chlorinated). Also consider wearing a diving cap. A diving cap not only protects your locks, but also keeps your hair out of the way when you swim.

2. Protect Your Skin

Sun ages skin. There is no way around it. Consider early morning swims and try to be out of the pool before the sun hits the water. Yes, this may be tough, but the benefits to an early morning swim before heading off to work is worth it.

If getting up early for a swim doesn’t work for you, then go after work or even better after dinner when the sun is off the pool. If you’re planning to spend the day by the pool and in the sun, wear a sun screen with a high SPF (30 or higher).

When you get out of the pool it’s a great time to work on the calluses on your heels and elbows. Keep a callus remover bar in the pool room and use it when you feet are still moist from your swim. After you have removed the dry skin, lather on the skin cream and don’t stop with the heels, cover your whole body!

3. Protect Your Nails

Lastly, nails that are exposed to sun and water become brittle and the cuticles will dry out. Do your best to apply cuticle oil to your nails as well as to your cuticles. If possible, do this many times per day. Keep cuticle oil in your car, on your desk, and in the bathroom and moisturize often.

Enjoy your summer, stay cool, and remember to call Fowler’s Pool Service for your pool cleaning, pool maintenance, pool service and pool repair needs!

Summer may finally be here! San Diego seemed to miss it last year so maybe this summer will be the best yet!

It’s time to get your pool up and running and ready to dive into with a wild splash! When you hit the water you want to know that it is clean, clear, and a healthy environment for you and your family.

Here are 5 Tips to help make that happen:

Start Your Summer Season with a Clean Pool Filter
Most manufactures of DE pool filters strongly suggest that filters be taken apart and cleaned every 12 months. DE filters should be backwashed when the clean pressure goes up four pounds. If you make the decision to clean your own filter, be sure to follow the manufacture’s directions. If you have a cartridge filter the directions are the same. Cartridge filters, just like DE pool filters, need to be cleaned annually and sprayed down (using a stray nozzle) through out the year. Always make note of the pool filter’s clean pressure!

Check the Conditioner Level in Your Pool
Pool conditioner is the product that helps keep the chlorine from evaporating to quickly out of your pool. Most pool owners maintain the conditioner level between 50 to 80 p.p.m. So, before that weather really warms up make sure that your pool is chemically ready for those hot temperatures.

Cut Back the Trees and Plants
The plants may look good hanging over your pool but they are a nightmare waiting to happen. Remember that high school biology class? Perhaps you spent that year wondering when I am ever going to use this information. Well today is the day, organic material is one of the factors in causing algae to bloom in water. When your lovely plants drop their leaves or when the water drains from them into your pool the algae will bloom. Also, most fertilizers are iron based and if an iron based fertilizer is thrown into your pool it will leave small tear like stains on your pool plaster. Don’t worry, the stains can be removed, but it is an awful lot of work.

Solar Blankets are Good
Every day your pool water warms warms up and every night it cools down. You can stop that from happening with a solar cover. The key to a warm spring pool is having it covered at night. However, this does not mean you can just cover it and forget it. Plastic pool covers drop the PH so your pool needs to breathe at least one day per week with the cover off. Just be sure that you get that pool cover back on before night fall.

Enjoy Your Pool In, and Out of the Water
Create a comfortable environment around your pool. Take time to sit and read your book poolside or enjoy a cup of coffee watching the sunset. You will find there is great enjoyment found just sitting near water; its calming effect is a great stress reducer.

Wow! What a weird summer we had this year. All of us over at Fowler’s San Diego Pool Service have been amazed by the cool weather along with the rest of San Diego. Even though the weather has been off, Fowler’s has been busy with pool service, pool cleaning, installing new pool equipment and pool sweeps, and doing equipment repairs and acid washes.

While we are looking after the pools in San Diego you are hopefully still enjoying your pool! We trust that your pool is sparkling clean and crystal clear. If it is not, give us a call. We hope you have at least a month more of swimming time in Southern California this year. Fowler’s has put together a few tips on how to keep the season going!

Four Pool Service Tips to Help Keep You In Your Pool Longer

1. Run your filter when the sun is shining if you have a solar system, keep your chemicals balanced, the water level up, and make sure that all of the water in the pool is flowing in and out of the filter each day. Therefore, the filter should still be running 5 to 8 hours per day.

2. Cover the pool with a solar blanket. Be sure that the pool is covered every night! However, blankets trap CO2 that will cause the Ph to drop. So, at least once per week remove the blanket so that the pool can breathe. Remember to pull the blanket the day that your pool is serviced and then to put it back on that night. Just a note, last year we tried using two blankets on our pool. We were hoping we could get a few more swimming days in the month of November. However, we found that it made not difference. So, I guess that more is not better in this case.

3. Keep a thermometer in the pool. The water may be warmer than you think! Most of us can workout in a pool that is around 76 degrees. (I know you probably like it warmer but remember that doing laps also will keep you warm.)

4. You can use a pool heater. But, watch out for the gas bill. Heating a pool really adds up money wise and the stress that the bill may cause could out weigh the benefits you receive from swimming.

Hopefully these few tips will bring you a few more months of pool time as we enter into the fall season.

The Fowler’s Pool Service team enjoy providing quality San Diego pool cleaning service and pool service tips – with over 30 years in the pool cleaning business we can confidently say we are proud of our pool service company and the work we do. It has been an honor to work hard, to be fair and honest, and sleep well every night.

Keep on swimming!
